Are you a healthcare professional or student looking to make a real difference in the world? Join our transformative Medical/Health Care Volunteer Program in Kenya and embark on a 19-day journey that will not only change lives but also enhance your skills and broaden your perspectives in global health.
Your journey begins as you touch down in Kenya. On Day 1, you'll be greeted at the airport by our friendly staff who will transfer you to your comfortable accommodation. The evening is dedicated to settling in and meeting your fellow volunteers over a welcome dinner. During this time, you'll receive a comprehensive program briefing, setting the stage for the exciting days ahead.
Day 2 is all about preparing you for your volunteer experience. The morning starts with an in- depth introduction to the Kenyan healthcare system, giving you crucial context for your work. This is followed by cultural sensitivity training, ensuring you're well-equipped to interact respectfully and effectively with local communities. The day concludes with a tour of local healthcare facilities, providing a firsthand look at your future working environment.
From Day 3 to Day 17, you'll be fully immersed in your volunteer role. Each day brings new experiences as you're assigned to various medical departments. You'll assist in patient care, actively participate in health education initiatives, and engage in community outreach programs. Throughout your stay, you'll also have the opportunity to join medical camps and conduct health screenings, directly impacting the lives of local communities. Every evening, you'll gather with your fellow volunteers for reflections and group discussions, sharing experiences and insights from the day.
As your volunteer period comes to a close, Day 18 is dedicated to wrapping up your experience. The day begins with final project presentations, where you'll share your learnings and achievements. This is followed by a certificate award ceremony, recognizing your hard work and dedication. The evening culminates in a farewell dinner with local staff and fellow volunteers, providing a perfect opportunity to celebrate your journey and the connections you've made.
On Day 19, it's time to bid farewell to Kenya. You'll be transferred to the airport for your return flight, carrying with you a wealth of experiences, new skills, and memories that will last a lifetime. As you depart, you'll leave knowing that you've made a meaningful contribution to healthcare in Kenya.
We welcome medical students (who have completed at least one year of study), nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals. All skill levels can contribute meaningfully to our program.
While not mandatory, a passion for healthcare and adaptability to challenging environments is essential. We provide comprehensive orientation to prepare you for the experience.
Opportunities include general medical assistance, nursing support, dental care, physiotherapy, public health education, maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS awareness, laboratory assistance, pharmacy support, and mental health services.
Your safety is our top priority. We partner with reputable local organizations, provide 24/7 support, and offer comprehensive pre-departure safety briefings. However, volunteers should always exercise caution and follow local guidelines.
Recommended vaccinations include Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, and Meningitis. Malaria prophylaxis is also advised. Consult your healthcare provider or a travel clinic for personalized advice based on your medical history and current health status.
Volunteers stay in shared, comfortable, and safe accommodations. In urban areas, this may be a volunteer house or guesthouse. In rural placements, you might stay with a host family for a more immersive experience.
Absolutely! Many volunteers extend their stay to explore Kenya's famous national parks, beaches, or cultural sites. We can assist in arranging post-program travel experiences.
Typically, volunteers work 6-8 hours per day, five days a week. This allows time for reflection, cultural activities, and rest.
English is widely spoken in Kenyan medical facilities. Basic Swahili phrases are taught during orientation, which can enhance your interaction with patients and the community.
We provide fundraising guidelines and support. Many volunteers use crowdfunding platforms, organize local events, or seek sponsorships from their institutions or local businesses.
