Embark on an unforgettable 4-day safari adventure that takes you from the coastal paradise of
Mombasa through three of Kenya’s most diverse and captivating national parks: Tsavo West,
Amboseli, and Taita Hills. This meticulously crafted itinerary offers a perfect blend of Kenya’s iconic landscapes, abundant wildlife, and breathtaking natural wonders. From the volcanic of Tsavo West to the elephant-rich plains of Amboseli with Mount Kilimanjaro as a
backdrop, and the lush, hilly sanctuary of Taita Hills, this safari promises an immersive journey through East Africa’s most stunning wilderness areas.
Your safari adventure begins early in the morning as you depart from your Mombasa hotel at 08:00 AM, heading inland towards Tsavo West National Park. The journey of approximately 295 kilometers takes you through changing landscapes, offering glimpses of rural Kenyan life. Upon arrival at Kilaguni Safari Lodge, you'll enjoy a well-deserved lunch before embarking on your first afternoon game drive. Tsavo West, known for its rugged beauty and diverse wildlife, provides an excellent introduction to Kenya's wilderness. As the day winds down, you'll make your way to Ngulia Safari Lodge for dinner and your overnight stay. The lodge, perched on the edge of an escarpment, offers breathtaking views of the vast Tsavo plains.
After an early breakfast, you'll bid farewell to Tsavo West and journey towards Amboseli National Park, nestled at the foot of Africa's highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro. En route, you'll pass through the fascinating Shetani Lava Flow, a vast expanse of folded black lava, testament to the area's volcanic past. You'll also visit Mzima Springs, where crystal-clear water flows from underground streams, often hosting hippos and crocodiles. Arriving at Amboseli in time for lunch, you'll then set out for an afternoon game drive. Amboseli is renowned for its large elephant herds and unparalleled views of Mount Kilimanjaro, offering spectacular photo opportunities. As the day comes to a close, you'll return to Amboseli Sopa Lodge for dinner and your overnight stay, with the silhouette of Kilimanjaro as your backdrop.
Your day begins with an early morning game drive in Amboseli, a perfect time to catch the wildlife at its most active and see Mount Kilimanjaro revealed in the early light. After a late breakfast back at the lodge, you'll depart for Taita Hills Sanctuary, arriving in time for lunch at either Taita Hills Lodge or Hilton Safari Camp. In the afternoon, you'll enjoy a spectacular game-viewing drive in this unique sanctuary. Taita Hills offers a different landscape from the previous parks, with its lush, hilly terrain providing a stark contrast to the savannah plains. The sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, buffalos, and numerous antelope species. You'll spend the night at Taita Hills Lodge, known for its elevated position offering panoramic views of the sanctuary.
On your final morning, rise early for one last game drive in Taita Hills Sanctuary, soaking in the beauty of the African bush as it awakens. After breakfast at the lodge, you'll begin your journey back to Mombasa. The drive offers a last chance to see wildlife and enjoy the scenic Kenyan landscape. You'll arrive in Mombasa before lunch, where you'll be dropped off at your coastal hotel, marking the end of your diverse and exciting safari adventure.
The best time for this safari is during the dry seasons: June to October and January to February. These periods offer the best wildlife viewing opportunities as animals gather around water sources. However, the parks are beautiful year-round, and the green season (March to May and November to December) offers lush landscapes and newborn animals.
Driving times vary, but expect approximately 4-5 hours from Mombasa to Tsavo West, 3-4 hours from Tsavo West to Amboseli, 4-5 hours from Amboseli to Taita Hills, and about 5-6 hours from Taita Hills back to Mombasa. Game drives are additional and typically last 2-3 hours.
You'll stay in comfortable lodges, each offering essential amenities and unique experiences. Ngulia Safari Lodge in Tsavo West offers panoramic views, Amboseli Sopa Lodge is known for its Kilimanjaro vistas, and Taita Hills Lodge provides elevated views of the sanctuary.
Yes, this safari is suitable for children aged 6 and above. The diverse landscapes and abundance of wildlife make it an educational and exciting experience for kids. However, parents should be aware of the long travel times and early mornings.
You have good chances of seeing elephants, lions, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, and various antelope species. Amboseli is famous for its large elephant herds, while Tsavo West and Taita Hills offer opportunities to spot more elusive animals like leopards. Bird enthusiasts will also enjoy the diverse avian life across all three locations.
Pack light, comfortable clothing in neutral colors (avoid bright colors and white), a warm jacket for early mornings and evenings, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), comfortable walking shoes, binoculars, and a camera with extra batteries and memory cards. Don't forget any personal medications and a small first aid kit.
Yes, the areas visited are in malaria zones. Consult your doctor about anti-malarial medication before the trip. Additionally, use insect repellent and wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants in the evenings for added protection.
Yes, most lodges can cater to special dietary needs if informed in advance. Please notify us of any requirements when booking. This includes vegetarian, vegan, gluten- free, and halal options.
Tsavo West is known for its rugged, volcanic landscape and the Mzima Springs. Amboseli offers unparalleled views of Mount Kilimanjaro and large elephant herds. Taita Hills Sanctuary provides a more intimate safari experience with its lush, hilly terrain and the possibility of night game drives.
While the focus is on wildlife and nature, you'll pass through rural areas and may have opportunities to observe local life. Some lodges also offer cultural presentations or visits to nearby villages, which can be arranged at an additional cost.
The safari is conducted in specially designed 4x4 vehicles with pop-up roofs for optimal game viewing. Vehicles typically accommodate 6-7 passengers, ensuring everyone has a window seat and access to the pop-up roof.
Most lodges offer Wi-Fi in common areas, but connectivity can be limited due to the remote locations. It's best to consider this as a chance to disconnect and fully immerse yourself in the safari experience.
Walking safaris are generally not offered in these parks for safety reasons. However, Taita Hills Sanctuary sometimes offers night drives, providing a unique opportunity to spot nocturnal animals. This can be arranged at the lodge, subject to availability and weather conditions.
Tipping is customary but not mandatory. A general guideline is $10-15 per day for your guide/driver and $5-10 per day for lodge staff, usually given at the end of your stay.
